__/ 113TH ANNIVERSARY: AROUND THE BAY ROAD RACE, HAMILTON, ONTARIO, MARCH 25, 2007 - With a tradition older than the Boston Marathon, "The Bay" race is one every runner should experience and it's a perfect long run for your spring marathon. There are still a few slots for the 30K; however, the popular 2 and 3 person relay teams are filled. You can see the course on any Ontario map; the race circles Hamilton Harbor and the finish will is inside the 15,000 seat Copps Coliseum. Events include a terrific expo with over 70 vendors on the Copps Coliseum concourse and the Dofasco Pasta Dinner.

__/ JACQUELINE GAREAU AND JOHN STANTON TO SPEAK AT AROUND THE BAY DOFASCO PASTA DINNER - 27 years ago Jacqueline Gareau of Montreal, Quebec, won the 84th Boston Marathon and also set a course record. Gareau did not get to wear the winner's laurel wreath the day she won because another women cheated the course and got race-day glory. Jacqueline will tell the Dofasco Pasta Dinner audience some of the stories about her running career and accomplishments.

__/ PAUL TEREK WINS 2007 USA INDOOR COMBINED EVENTS; LELA NELSON THIRD - "INDIANAPOLIS - Paul Terek and Fiona Asigbee won their respective men's and women's titles Sunday at the 2007 USA Indoor Combined Events Championships at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

A 2004 Olympian, Terek led the men's heptathlon from Day 1 with 3,267 points after four events. He held off 2002 NCAA DIII decathlon champion Chris Boyles to win his third indoor crown with 5,960 points to Boyles' 5,702. Terek is the first to ever win this event three times. His previous titles came in 2003 and 2004. Ryan Olkowski was third with 5,414.

Two-time defending champion Ryan Harlan ended Day 1 with 3,103 points and did not resume competition on Sunday.

The runner-up at last year's event, Terek won three individual events including the long jump (7.15m/23-05.5), pole vault (5.32m/17-05.5) and 1,000 meters (2:44.39).

2005 NACAC heptathlon champion Fiona Asigbee held on to her lead by one point to win the women's pentathlon title over former Seton Hall standout Bridgette Ingram, 4,098 points to Ingram's 4,097. Asigbee's individual event win came in the women's 60-meter hurdles (8.56). The 2006 USA Combined Events champion, Lela Nelson, finished third with 3,976 points."

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD: YPSILANTI, MICHIGAN USATF INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD MEET - Competitors were enjoying the spiffy new track at the Bob Parks Track in Bown Field House-- none more so than Front Line Racing Team's Eric Green. Eric won two of the three events he entered (800 & 3,000 meter runs) with such a smooth stride that he made it look easy. Eric's twin daughters and son were there to cheer him on. Front Line's recent successes in national competitions were the buzz of the meet: Fred Vanhala's article about Front Line's win at the USATF Club Cross Country meet was posted on the wall. Front Line's Jerome Recker (winner of the mile) and Brian Soash showed the speed that took second in the indoor DMR.

Michigan USATF President, Jacqueline DeVose mentioned her pride in the Michigan chapter's summer youth events. Regulars on the Michigan road-racing scene who were competing in indoor track included Doug Ogden, Gary Morgan, Joan Berman and Josh Stryker.

Don Jackson, coach of the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project, showed some speed of his own in the sprints-- first time I've seen a sprinter's speedsuit in the dramatic red, yellow and black Hansons-Brooks colors. We asked Don how Marty Rosendahl was training for the Kenyan heat at the World Cross Country Championships later this month. "Long sleeves, long pants, indoor on the treadmill", says Don.
