Five Michigan women and two former residents have qualified to compete in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, Women's Marathon in St. Louis, April 3. The event's criterion-style course will pass through historic Forest Park, site of the 1904 World's Fair.

All state qualifiers have met the USATF "B" standard of 2:48. None have made the 2:39:59 "A" standard which provides the bonus of paid expenses. Representing our state will be Monica Hostetler, 27, Rochester Hills Anne Flynn, 39, Augusta Seana Larson, 33, Dexter Carly Graytock, 25, Rochester Hills Sarah Plaxton, 33, Highland

Former Michigan residents to watch are Cindy Barber Keeler, 45, Clermont, Florida and Lori Stich Zimmerman, 33, Cedar Creek Texas. Michigan Runner TV will be in St. Louis with our video cameras to bring you the action in a future show. For more on Michigan qualifiers, see

__/ FIFTH THIRD RIVER BANK RUN TRAINING CLINIC SERIES

How about this for a good deal: GRSportsCenter Sports Medicine and Gazelle Sports are sponsoring training clinics to help you be in shape for the Fifth Third River Bank Run on May 8. Clinics are free of charge with no pre-registration required. The next one is "Race and Recovery" on Thursday, April 15, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Gazelle Sports, 3930 28th Street, SE, Grand Rapids. Seasoned West Michigan runners will answer questions and tell you what to expect on race day and how to quickly recover after May 8, 2004.

__/ THE MICHIGAN RUNNER, JERRY SEINFELD AND SUPERMAN

In mid year of 2001, The Michigan Runner began to create original programming for the Internet. It was a little lonely out there, with only 9% of the available audience able to see what we were bringing to their computer screens. Since that time, much has changed. More than 50% of those now connected to the Internet have cable speeds or higher and programming designed specifically for the Internet is now starting to blossom.

This week, Jerry Seinfeld and Superman bring you some original programming design specifically for the Internet. Following in the footsteps of BMW Films, Terry Tate and, yes, The Michigan Runner, American Express brings to the viewing public, "A Uniform Used to Mean Something", starring Jerry Steinfeld and Superman. Enjoy

__/ QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"So I definitely have respect for the other ladies on the line, as well as knowing that the marathon distance is challenging in itself. I've seen a lot of upsets in this race and I would never fax in the results ahead of time."

-- U.S. women's marathon record holder: Deana Drossin Kastor, speaking during a teleconference on Monday, March 29, 2004.
