__/ BOSTON MARATHON, MONDAY, APRIL 18 We salute everyone who qualified to run Boston this year-- from Cindy Goodhue, who is running her first, to Mark Bauman, who is running his 35th consecutive Boston, to Bob Daly, who's aiming for a sub 4 hour in the 70-74 age group. We hope you have better (cooler) weather this year. OLN is broadcasting live from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm and will show an encore at 8:00 pm Monday. See http://olntv.com for details.

__/ MAGGY ZIDAR IS RUNNING 100TH MARATHON, LONDON, SUNDAY, APRIL 17 We heard from Maggy Zidar (now in age group 55-59) earlier this week: "I will be running my 100th marathon in London England on Sunday, 17 April. All of my marathons have been under 4 hours( 3 in the 3:50's and all others between 3:17...my PR...and the 3:40's). I was wondering if that's any kind of record and if you know how I would go about researching the number of women in the country or the world who have run 100 marathons. I'm going to try to run under 4 in London!" We have some ideas about researching Maggy's request, but welcome those of our readers. We expect there are very few women who have run as many marathons as fast as Maggy. Good luck to Maggy and to Nino Bovio, who expected to accompany Maggy in London.

__/ KIP KEINO WILL BE IN BOWLING GREEN AND COLUMBUS, OHIO, APRIL 22-24 "Kip Keino, four time Olympic medal winner and world- renowned humanitarian will be in Ohio the weekend of April 22nd -24th. Keino will be in Bowling Green on Friday April 22nd and will be signing autographs on campus in Oscamp room 117, during a reception from 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. He will then be on hand for the 3rd annual Bowling Green State University 5K Race Against AIDS on Saturday April 23 rd at 10:00 a.m.

"On Sunday, April 24th Keino will travel to The Columbus Running Company in Dublin for a 2-mile fun run at 3:30 p.m. After the fun run Kenyan students from Denison University and members of RUNGRANVILLE are providing Kenyan food. Then at 4:15 p.m. Keino will talk about his past, Kenyan culture, the AIDS epidemic in Africa, and distance running today." For more information see, http://www.runohio.com/news/04-08- 05Kieno.html -- Stephanie Agosta, RunOhio

__/ GREAT PERFORMANCES

-- Fred Vanhala (Relay Fred) mentioned this stunning performance in his newsletter: "Mindy Houser will be competing for us (Front Line Racing Team) in Boston next week. As a warm-up to the world's most famous marathon, she did an Ironman Triathlon in Arizona, placing first of 35 entrants in the 25-29 age group and qualifying for the Hawaii Ironman Championships. I probably know hardly any more than the average guy on the street regarding triathlons, but I certainly know that after swimming 2.4 miles in 1:18:10, biking (in windy conditions) 112 miles in 6:01:24, that a 3:26:22 marathon is pretty good. That's a great time if you take out the swimming and biking before it. Mindy's total time was 10:53:55. Whew, I'll be happy if she just finishes Boston after almost 11 hours of competing this weekend!"

-- "Team USA finished fourth at the 2005 Beijing International Women's Ekiden on Sunday, April 10.

The team of Briana Shook, Samia Akbar, Sabrina Monro, Patricia Nervo and Erika Aklufi ran nearly four minutes faster than last year in the 19th annual running of the event, which was contested on the streets of China's capitol city, which is also the host of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Team USA finished with a total time of 2 hours, 25 minutes and 20 seconds. The Ekiden was won by Ethiopia with 2:18:08." -- From Running USA Newsletter -- Brian Sell, Hansons-Brooks, 47:37, second place and $5,000, Papa John's 10 miler, USA Men's 10 Mile Championship, April 9, Louisville, Kentucky

__/ QUOTE OF THE WEEK "Lesson plans and video games don't apply in real life or on the field of play. The field of play provides the lessons. Any sport requires kids to adapt to a constantly changing environment and learn the skills that can be applied in the real world.

The field of competition does not have the luxury of grades or pause buttons. Its' participants compete in the world of absolutes where they either win or lose." -- Paul McMullen, Big Kicker Article of the Week: What Are Echo Boomers?
