__/ VIRGINIA TECH WOMEN LEAD AFTER DAY ONE IN ACC TRACK & FIELD OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS, UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND - As one Virginia Tech student reminded us: It's not about the killer; it's about the future and how Virginia Tech Hokies become stronger." We can't stop thinking about our own family who live in Blacksburg and teach and study at Virginia Tech. We'll be cheering for Hokie teams for quite some time.

__/ HILLSDALE "GINA" RELAYS & WYLD BILL 5K, HILLSDALE, MICHIGAN, APRIL 26-28, 2007 - Hillsdale College and Coach Bill Lundberg host one of the best and best-run track meets in the U.S. Decathlon and heptathlon events begin on Thursday. Friday evening will showcase distance events and Saturday morning is the Wyld Bill 5K road race. Entry into the WYLD Bill race is also a ticket for the meet. __/ FORMER WORLD RECORD HENRY RONO WILL RUN 5000m AT HILLSDALE "GINA" RELAYS - Last week Lewis Butler of Hillsdale College alerted us to this exciting news:

"On Friday night the 27th, Henry Rono will be running a 5000m on the track. Henry Rono was the former world recorder holder at the 3,000m, 3000m steeple, 5000m, and 10000m. He set all four of these WR in a span of 81 days in 1978. After Kenya boycotted the Olympics in '80, Rono battled demons off the track (alcohol and at times was homeless) and is now trying to come back at the age of 55 and set the masters world record in the mile. A lot of people have been picking up on the story (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news for example), and thought you might like to cover the story with him being in this part of the country.

One of his good friends and training partner, Dr. Gary Wolfram, now teaches at Hillsdale College, and they will be reunited after having not seen each other for 25+ years at the meet. Dr. Wolfram helped Henry get back on his feet in '81 and running again before he went to Europe and set the WR in the 10000m again.

__/ HERMES 10 MILER, FLEET 5K & CLEVELAND KID'S RUN, SATURDAY, APRIL 28, 2007 - Spring is a terrific time of year to make the short trip to Cleveland and collect a finishing medal from the Hermes 10 Miler. The Hermes 10 Miler organizers have been collecting votes for runner's favorite running songs and will play the top 20 songs along the course. __/ ROAD ENDS 5 MILE TRAIL RUN, PINCKNEY, SATURDAY, APRIL 28 - You'll have bragging rights when you finish the Road Ends 5 Mile Trail Run-- known for its hills as well as its beautiful scenery in the Pinckney Recreation Area. This 5 mile is also the second event in the Michigan Runner Race Series, which includes at least one trail event each year. Race begins at 9:00 am, Silver Lake.

__/ RUNNING FIT TRAIL MARATHON, SUNDAY, APRIL 29 - Weather is always a factor in this trail marathon or half. Rain is typical; snow happened a couple of years ago; sun is unusual. The trail for the marathon or half marathon is hilly, tough, beautiful and demanding of your attention. The marathon is a double loop so this is a great chance to practice negative splits. Marathon begins at 7:30; half begins at 8:30. Brooks technical shirts available for all marathon and half participants.

__/ U-M's JAMES HENRY TO JOIN DRAKE RELAYS COACHES HALL OF FAME - "DES MOINES, Iowa -- University of Michigan women's track and field head coach James Henry will be inducted into the Drake Relays Coaches Hall of Fame on Thursday, April 26, during a reception at the Drake Knapp Center. The Drake Relays Coaches Hall of Fame, which was established in 1977 with six charter members, now has 75 inductees. Henry will be joined by Don Larson, who is in his 28th year as head men's track and field coach at North Dakota State."
