We congratulate all the Hansons-Brooks runners and coaches Keith and Kevin Hanson. Think about this: all seven Hansons-Brooks athletes who finished placed higher than than their bib numbers, which seed runners based on qualifying time:

__/ MACKINAC ISLAND'S GREAT TURTLE HAS A NEW DATE: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 21 - Anne and John Gault want Mackinac Island fans to know that the 2006 Mackinac Island Great Turtle Half Marathon and 5.7 Mile Run Walk has changed its date. --TIM BROE TO HOST HILLSDALE "GINA" RELAYS - Tim Broe heads to Hillsdale to host Michigan Runner TV's coverage of the 40th annual Hillsdale "Gina" Relays. Eastern Michigan Men and Women, Michigan Men, Michigan State Men and Women, Central Michigan Men and Women, Western Michigan Women are scheduled to compete as are open teams and individuals including several from the Front Line Racing Team.

__/ WELCOME, ALISIA SARA OLTEANU - Denisa Costescu and Ovidiu Olteanu are the parents of their first child; Alisia Sara Olteanu arrived Thursday, April 13. Ovi and Denisa are originally from Romania, where Ovi competed in the 1996 Olympics and is Romania's only sub 4:00 miler. Denisa is a threat at road races from the 1 Mile to the 10 Mile in Michigan and throughout the US.

Ovi says "[Alisia] was born 3 weeks early. Denisa is doing fine and soon she'll start running again."

__/ BETSY, BETSIE, BETSIE AND BETSEY

--BETSY FRENS - From some strange reason I started misspelling Betsy's name in the Michigan Runner magazine. Didn't even realize this mistake-- it may have had something to do with visiting Petoskey. I'm sorry, Betsy; I'll be correcting the online versions of headlines, articles and captions. Many people misspell my name with a "y", but no one misspells it with an "ey."

--BETSIE RIVER - Tim Broe likes the fishing in the Betsie River and I like the Betsie River path. Now the Betsie River Valley has a race; the Friends of the Betsie Valley District Library are hosting a run, October 8 at Crystal Mountain Resort. http://betsievalleyrun.com.

--BETSIE THE DOG - While walking along the Frankport breakwater Thursay, I was thinking about Betsy Frens and the Betsie River. A big, friendly black lab stopped and let me pet her. "What's her name?" I asked the owner. "Betsie," he said. "After the River?" "Yes, " he smiled.

-- BETSEY - We know no people, rivers or dogs with this name.

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD

-- ADRIAN - Last week we stopped by Eric and Kerri Clarke's store on Main Street in Adrian, Running with E's. Both Eric and Kerri help fit many high school runners with shoes. Eric likes to run ultras while Kerri prefers 5K's with her dog. Among the local races they support is the Souper Run in November-- a very successful fundraiser for "The Daily Bread" Lenawee's Soup Kitchen.

-- GREENVILLE - Larry Taylor had lots of customers in "The Runnery" when we stopped by on Wednesday this week. The Greenville store has grown into a space several times larger than their original space and offers athletic shoes for many different sports

-- THOMPSONVILLE - The folks at Crystal Mountain Resort are making plans to celebrate the Resort's 50th anniversary next winter. According to triathlete Joan O'Neil, Crystal's Public Relations and Communications Manager, the kickoff will be a Turkeys and Vultures race on Thanksgiving Weekend. Stay tuned for further details.

-- FRANKFORT - Frankfort's Port City Run is now a Saturday morning run-- a change from the Friday evening event of years past. They've also changed the course to a flat and fast one along the Betsie Valley Trail. The evening 5K included a killer hills with an equally killer view. Tentative date is Saturday, July 15. If you are in the Frankfort neighborhood for the Port City Run or the Crystal Lake Team Marathon, check out the Betsie Bay Inn. The Victorian era inn has new owners who have created cheerful spaces for dining, bar and lodging.

-- CRYSTAL LAKE - Crystal Lake is one of Northern Lower Michigan's most beautiful spots and it's home to the Crystal Lake Team Marathon in August. We got a stunning view of Crystal Lake and Lake Michigan from the clubhouse veranda at Crystal Downs Golf Club.

-- BELLAIRE - One of our favorite microbreweries is Short's in downtown Bellaire. Their Autumn Ale has been so popular that they were still serving it on this beautiful spring day.

-- TRAVERSE CITY - The Traverse City Record Eagle reports that Annie Otwell will be a Wisconsin Badger. The Traverse City Central runner has won several road race titles (Cherry Festival 5K and Frozen Foot Race 5 Mile).

-- GAYLORD - Otsego County Parks and Recreation hosts a scenic, tough 12K, a 5K and a 1Mile during their Alpenfest in July. This year's Alpenfest Run is Saturday, July 15. The Festival is a fun one which highlights Swiss Alps theme of the town.
