At the time, Gord Dickson, five-time winner of "The Bay" race, agreed to narrate the "History of Canadian Athletics and Road Racing Exhibit." __/ THE JOGGER IS BACK - The Jogger, a character developed by our son Mike McCafferty, has reappeared on the Internet at http:// medialab.ifc.com/film_detail.jsp?film_id=334. The show was a sleeper hit on L.A.'s Channel 101 and then taken off the web when a media marketing firm picked up the concept and the rights for a possible media campaign.

After taking the video off the Internet, the company decided to put it back on for additional exposure. Mike will be appearing in the upcoming sequel to National Treasure," National Treasure: The Book of Secrets", that will be released this holiday season.

As we begin the 30th Anniversary year of the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon, we need to remember that Neal Shine was one of the driving forces in bringing this event about. Always a community supporter, he felt that an event that would feature the community of Detroit would be a natural. Under his leadership and the resources of the Detroit Free Press and later, Flagstar Bank, the marathon has grown in stature and become a major marathon in this country.

__/ PARA OLYMPIC SWIMMER, JESSICA LONG, WINS SULLIVAN AWARD - The AAU Sullivan Award is given each year to the USA's top amateur athlete. Previous winners include Joan Benoit Samuelson, Frank Shorter, Jim Ryun, Wilma Rudolph, Bill Bradley, Michelle Kwan, Peyton Manning, Mark Spitz and Rulon Gardner.

The 77th winner, Jessica Long, age 15, has 18 world record-breaking performances and holds the record in 12 events for paralympic swimming. Long, whose legs were amputated below the knee, learned to swim in her grandparents' pool and has won at least three medals in every Paralympic Games since 2004. In 2006, Long won nine gold medals and set five world records at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming World Championships in Durban, South Africa. http://www.aausullivan.org/

__/ VIRGINIA TECH WOMEN WIN FIRST-EVER ACC OUTDOOR T&F CHAMPIONSHIP Dave Cianelli, Virginia Tech Women's Head Coach "It was an awesome team performance. I knew that we could do this, pull together as a group and perform. We did. Our team hung together and were tight-knit. We were able to come out and perform to our ability under difficult circumstances. That shows the character of this team."

__/ RON WARHURST WILL COACH TEAM USA FOR 2007 IAAF WORLD CHAMPS - "INDIANAPOLIS - University of Miami head women's coach Amy Deem and Texas A&M head coach Pat Henry have been named to serve as the women's and men's head coaches, respectively, for Team USA's track and field squads for the 2007 IAAF World Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Osaka, Japan, USA Track & Field announced Thursday. Ralph Lindeman and Diane Wholey will serve as head managers.

Women's staff assistant coaches are Caryl Smith Gilbert, Julie Henner, Danny Williams and John Frazier. Assistant coaches serving the men's staff are Mike Holloway, Ron Warhurst, Cliff Rovelto and Robert Weir. Relay coaches are Brooks Johnson and Orin Richburg.

Ron Warhurst - Distance: Ron Warhurst is in his eighth season as the head coach of the University of Michigan men's track and field program after serving as an assistant coach with the program for 26 seasons. He has been head cross country coach for 33 years. Over his three decades as the distance specialist at Michigan, Warhurst has led 40 individuals and eight relays to All-America citations in track and field and developed 38 All-Americans in cross country, as well as leading Michigan teams to seven Big Ten cross country titles. He has been Big Ten Cross Country Coach of the Year four times and earned NCAA Regional Coach of the Year honors in 1997 and 1998. He is coach and advisor to several top professional distance runners, including Olympians Tim Broe and Grant Robison."
