"This race is now in it's 20th year. It started before a single knobby bike tire rolled around Potowatami Trail. Some days when I'm out running Potto and I'm asked to step aside for a bunch of bikes, I can sympathize with the American Indians in this country ... "Hey, I was here first!"

But seriously, Potto is a big bad loop of hilly kick your but wilderness with room for all users. Due to the fact that most Americans are comatose couch potato wimps, we get it to ourselves! I do enjoy a solitary run on Potto but once a year it's fun to lace em' up and scamper through the woods with a thousand of my friends. It's a celebration of dirt, sweat, pain that renews my faith in humanity.

__/ DEENA KASTOR SETS NEW AMERICAN MARATHON RECORD IN LONDON - Deena broke her own American record with a 2:19:35 and added another major marathon win to her resume. __/ MRN ON THE ROAD

FLINT - Serious planning is underway to make the 30th running of The Crim, something to remember. Word has it that Steve Kenyon, the English runner who benchmarked the Crim as a run for serious speedsters, will be back to run the race. The Flint Journal is putting together a book to celebrate the event. Mark Bauman, along with another 20 plus runners who have run the past 29 Crims, plans to be on the starting line. Bauman's Running and Walking Shop is moving to new digs right next door to the current shop and will be displaying some Crim memorabilia of the past in the new store. This is gearing up to be the running event of the year and the Michigan Runner will be there along with everybody else. Plan now to be there or be square.
