Michigan Runner's cameras catch a bird's eye view of
25,000+ runners and walkers at Michigan's largest race,
April 20 at Comerica Park in Detroit. Wensdy White takes us
to the finish line of Michigan's largest race for interviews with
winner Eric Larson and Nicole Blake as well as with breast
cancer survivors and finishers Judy Atsi, Merion Knight and
Jim Fountella. Renee Rienas visits with Race Director

__/ NEW DATE FOR DETROIT FREE PRESS/FLAGSTAR
BANK INTERNATIONAL MARATHON
October 6, 2002 is the new date for the 25th anniversary
running of the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank International
Marathon presented by Greektown Casino. Look for the
race course to be announced by mid-July. The course will
be certified and will serve as a qualifier for the Boston
Marathon. Events include the marathon, 2 and 5 person
relays, the wheelchair marathon and a 5K fun run. The
marathon is the final race in the 2002 Michigan Runner
Race Series and awards double points toward the Michigan
Runner of the Year award. http://www.freep.com/marathon/
__/ DON'T WAIT TO REGISTER FOR THE CHOK/YMCA
INTERNATIONAL BRIDGE RACE
One of our favorite bridge races is also celebrating its 25th
anniversary this year. The CHOK/YMCA International Bridge
Race on June 23rd begins at the Port Huron YMCA at 8:00
am and goes over the Blue Water Bridge to Sarnia.
September 11th forced some changes, though. Race
founder George Heath tells us "Canadian and American
Immigration Officials reviewed the race and gave me the
'go-ahead'...but...and a big 'BUT", they will NOT allow any
registration on Race Day... June 23rd. Every competitor
must be screened by the Canadians and Americans and
they don't have time to do it for those who used to register
on race day." This is a wonderful international race with lots
of prizes and great competition from both sides of the
bridge. Proceeds from the race go towards children who
can't afford to pay the registration fee for the YMCA Summer
Camp in Sarnia. For more information call George Heath at
1-519.344.0412 or the Sarnia YMCA at 519.336.9622 and
watch for a downloadable copy of the race flyer on

__/ FAST TIMES AT HILLSDALE COLLEGE GINA RELAYS
In a weekend which saw lots of track and field action, the
Hillsdale College Gina Relays, April 25-27, can claim one of
the most exciting 10,000 meter races ever. Consider this:
Matt Smith ran 31:07 for 26th place. 12 runners finished
under 29:00. Kyle Baker won, 28:34; Todd Williams was
second, 28:35; Jason Hubbard was third, 28:36. For
complete results see
