__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: MORE HILLSDALE "GINA" RELAYS - We
continue our videos of the 40th anniversary Hillsdale "Gina" Relays.
Check out nine new videos, including Tim Broe's calling the men's 5000
meter run, fun shots of relay exchanges, sprints, hurdles, jumps and
Tim's interviews with athletes. http://michiganrunner.tv/2006hillsdale/
__/ FOREST CITY ROAD RACES, LONDON, ONTARIO, SUNDAY, MAY
14 - We'll be visiting the beautiful and fun city of London, Ontario this
weekend for the Forest City Road Races: marathon, marathon relay,
half-marathon, 10K, 5K and 2.5K. Treat yourself to the Pasta Dinner as
Dick Beardsley is the speaker. Dick's contagious enthusiasm will inspire
anyone looking for that extra marathon boost. We also note that the host
hotel, the London Hilton, offers a complimentary late check-out as well
as a special rate for event participants.

__/ FIFTH THIRD RIVER BANK RUN, GRAND RAPIDS, SATURDAY,
MAY 13 - Brian Sell won't be defending his 25K national title come
Saturday, but the 25K national title always attracts an exciting elite field.
You can check out a video with elite athlete coordinator, Greg Meyer,
and members of the Reality Running Team. The video explains the
changes to the 25K course and the new 5K course. Also, we think it's
pretty cool that Ferris State Visual Design students designed the T-Shirt
and identity and communications materials for the race.

1990's and the 1980's respectively. For details see

evening of June 10th. Kevin Hanson expects track fans will be able to
attend the Midwest Meet of Champions in Jackson that afternoon, then

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD
-- MACKINAW CITY. Jeannie Rizzardi of the Mackinaw Area Visitors
Bureau is expecting about 700 runners for the third Mackinac Memorial
Bridge Run. After the Bridge Authority's concerns about the number of
runners the first year, Jeannie indicates that the bridge can handle
more. We enjoyed that first year so much that we plan to return,
Saturday, May 27, 2006. Brightroom will be there this year to do race
photos. Now that would be a photo to keep.
Web: http://mackinawcity.com
Video: http://michiganrunner.tv/2004MackinacBridge/
-- ST. IGNACE. We spoke with Janet Peterson of the St. Ignace Visitors
Bureau about the Mackinac Island 8 Mile Road Race. The St. Ignace
Kiwanis use the funds raised at the Mackinac Island race to build and
maintain a new track at St. Ignace High School and to provide uniforms
for the junior high track teams.
-- SAULT STE. MARIE, MICHIGAN. We think the Sault Tribe of
Chippewa Indians are doing a great job of keeping kids healthy. One of
the ways they do that is with the kids running club at the Chi Mukwa
Community Recreation Center. The kids all take part in the annual Billy
Mills Fun Run, which will be July 22 this year. You can check out our
2002 interview with Billy Mills and current Tribal Chairman, Aaron
Payment.
http://michiganrunner.com/tv/2002billymills/
-- BRIMLEY. We got in an early morning workout on the Wild Bluff Golf
Course in Brimley. Scott Hubbard knows Brimley, too:
"Brimley, where the city limit sign reminds you of their 7' 1" high jumper
John Payment!! ... Payment's leap is still the state record...from that tiny
UP village."
__/ GREAT PERFORMANCES -- ROAD RACES
-- Chris Wehrman, 2nd, 2:25:24, Meijer Derby Festival Marathon & Mini-
Marathon, Louisville, Kentucky, April 29. The former MSU Spartan now
lives in Chicago.
-- Justin Gillette, 23, 3rd, 2:27:26, Run for the Red Cross Marathon,
Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, May 7
--Melissa Lehman, 23, 2nd, 2:59:45, Run for the Red Cross Marathon,
Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, May 7
__/ GREAT PERFORMANCES -- TRACK AND FIELD
-- Good News and Bad News:
Dathan Ritzenhein got a PR 27:35.65 in the 10,000 meter run at the
Cardinal Invite, Stanford, April 30. Ritz's PR was good for second
behind rival Alan Webb's 27:33.72.
-- A couple of years ago we saw Notre Dame's Molly Huddle cruise to an
easy win in the Steve's Run 5K. At the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays, Huddle
knocked 5 seconds off the 1500 meet record. Last week, Huddle pulled
off an amazing 5,000/10,000 double win at the Big East Conference
Championships. The 32:37.87 was a meet record. You can see Molly
run at both Steve's Run and the Gina Relays:
http://michiganrunner.tv/2003stevesrun/stevesrunqt.html
http://michiganrunner.tv/2006hillsdale/1500qt.html
-- Scott Hubbard reports these two great performances:
"Boaz ran a very fast, tied for the best, anchor leg of a DMR at the Penn
Relays; 3:52.8 for 1600m. Grand Valley St had a very fast 5000m from
Mandi Zemba at Stanford/Payton Jordan meet in 15:48.62."
