__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: FOREST CITY ROAD RACES, LONDON, ONTARIO - Forest City Road Races are a Mother's Day tradition in London, Ontario where all the women who finish are presented a long- stemmed carnation along with the finishers' medal. Events, including the marathon, half-marathon, 10K, 5K and 2.5K help support the Thames Valley Children's Centre. Check out the videos of all these events as well as our interview with Pasta Dinner speaker, Dick Beardsley. http://michiganrunner.tv/2006forestcity/

__/ NEW AMERICAN 25K RECORD SET AT FIFTH THIRD RIVER BANK RUN-- Fernando Cabada brought the 25K American Record to the Fifth Third River Bank Run when he ran a 1:14:20 to break the previous record of 1:14:38 set by Ed Eyestone in Indianapolis in 1991. The Virginia college student won the race and the USATF 25K title. For more on Cabada see http://www.milesplit.com/athletes/21018.

Participants at the 29th annual Fifth Third River Bank Run also set a new record. 11,847 people ran, walked or wheeled the 25K or 5K events. Top Michigan finishers are listed below. For more about the winners and the participants see http://michiganrunner.net/news/ riverbank0506.html

__ JOHNSON CREEK TRAIL RUN, SATURDAY, MAY 20 - The Johnson Creek Trail Run was established in 2004 to showcase the unique natural features of the Johnson Creen Watershed. Ryan Pletzke, the 2005 winner said, "It doesn't have any giant hills, but it has lots of twists and turns. I loved it. It's beautiful out there." The 5K run and walk begin at 9:30 am, Northville Community Park and a kids fun run begins at 11:00. All are part of Johnson Creek Day at the Park. Web: http://www.jcpg.org.

__/ QUOTE OF THE WEEK "It is very disappointing to me that it has taken five days to determine the official time of a race with this significance. I remain confident that I am the World's Fastest Man and I look forward to proving it once again. My parents raised me to be agood sport but I don't want to share the World Record."

-- Justin Gatlin, after Tissot Timing revised his world record 9.76 at the Qatar Grand Prix to 9.77, reached previously by Asafa Powell. http:// usatf.org

__/ RYAN SHAY ON USA MEN'S TEAM ANNOUNCED FOR BOLDER BOULDER 10-K "The 9th International Team Challenge, the invitational portion of the Bolder Boulder 10-K scheduled for Monday, May 29, in Boulder, Colo., will feature a youthful men's team from the United States.

Brandon Leslie, 30, of Albuquerque, N.M.; Ryan Shay, 27, of East Jordan, Mich.; and Matt Gonzalez, 24, of Santa Fe, N.M. make up the team. They will be ranked against other 3-athlete teams using cross country scoring.

"This altitude trained group is solid, experienced and competitive," said elite athlete coordinator, Rich Castro." -- USATF Press Release

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD -- MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO - We stayed at Novotel, the host hotel, toured the course and stopped by the Expo of the Mississauga Marathon last weekend. The courses of the marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K earn A's from our casual tour. The growth in the race from 5600 finishers in 2005 to 7590 finishers this year indicate a winner for the third year of this event. We especially enjoyed our visit to the Port Credit waterfront area where all of the events finish. http://www.mississaugamarathon.com/

-- LONDON, ONTARIO - Dick Beardsley is a master story teller and he entertained and inspired all of us who were fortunate enough to be in attendance at the Forest City Road Races Pasta Dinner Saturday night. And Dick has stories to tell; if he were a cat he would have used up his nine lives by now. If you have a chance to catch Dick at a Pasta Dinner, don't miss it.

We think the changed start and finish lines at Victoria Park in downtown London are fun for runner, families and spectators. We'd like to congratulate Race Director Sonia Slaven, Promotions Director Brad Arndt, Announcer Paul Roberts, Rob Sleegers who helped us get interviews at the finish line, and the rest of the London team who put on a happy, fun and successful event.
