We stopped by Hansons Running Shop in Utica on Sunday and had a chance to chat with Kevin Doyle, Brian Sell and to meet one of the new members of the team, Patrick Gildea. Patrick is a native of Holbrook, New York, recently arrived from the University of Tennessee in Kn oxville and expects to focus on the 10K. We were a little surprised when Patrick said he mis ses Tennessee's humidity, though. Just wait for August, Pat rick. Brian is looking forward to the LaSalle Bank Chicago M arathon in the Fall and Kevin mentioned that he likes Tim Br oe's interviews on Michigan Runner TV. Next up for the Hansons-Brooks athletes is The Great Race in Elkhart, Indi ana on Memorial Day.

__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER RACE SERIES - STANDINGS

Last week we reported that we were playing with spreadshe ets to see what would happen if we changed the scoring for senior runners. We agree with Gary Wolfram who pointed out that we shouldn't change the rules in the middle of the game. __/ QUOTE OF THE WEEK

The reason I think Dathan is the real deal is he obviously h as physical talent, physical ability, we've seen that in his per formances. But he has a mind of a champion. Just the few t imes I've spoken to him and watched him race, he does not get flustered. He doesn't have up and down performances.

He's solid all the time. He thinks for himself. He's not led easily by any one individual or group. That is a kind of a foundation to be a great athlete if you have the talent to back it up."

-- Bob Kennedy, in Runner's World Online Brief Chat, May 1 3, 2004 http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/daily_news/1,5039,0-0-0- 0----05-13-2004,00.html#chat
