__/ RUNNING NETWORK TV: AN INTERVIW WITH JOHN
GOODRIDGE, PART I
Running Network TV continues its series on coaches with John
Goodridge, men's distance and cross country coach at Eastern
Michigan. Long a powerhouse in track and field, Eastern Michigan?s
athletes currently include distance runner Boaz Cheboiywo and
steeplechaser Jordan Desilets. John's rich history of coaching high
school and collegiate track and cross country athletes adds to the
tradition of excellent coaches at the school. http;//michiganrunner.tv/

__/ BOAZ CHEBOIYWO AIMING FOR OUTDOOR 5,000 METER AND
10,000 METER TITLES
NCAA Division I defending 10,000 meter champion Boaz Cheboiywo
hopes to add the 5,000 meter title to his collection. The NCAA Division I
Regionals will be contested May 30 and 31 at The Ohio State University
in Columbus Ohio. Cheboiywo will take on Arkansas?s Alistair Cragg,
first at Regionals, then at the Finals which will be June 14 and 15 at
California State University, Sacramento, California. We spoke with Boaz
at last Saturday?s Mid-American Conference championships hosted by
Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant. Although Cheboiywo
has qualified for the 1500 meter he didn?t expect to be competing in that
event. Running Network TV will feature an interview with Boaz
Cheboiywo in an upcoming show.
__/ MICHIGAN & EASTERN MICHIGAN WOMEN, CENTRAL MICHIGAN
MEN WIN CONFERENCE TITLES
University of Michigan women completed the Big Ten Conference triple
crown with their track and field championship last weekend. Michigan
women currently hold Big Ten cross-country and indoor titles. Eastern
Michigan women also claimed the Mid-American conference track and
field title with one individual winner (Brit Klanart- javelin) and lots of
depth. Should be interesting when the two teams meet at Regionals
May 30 & 31. The host Central Michigan University Chippewas won the
Mid-America Conference men?s title. Sadly, both Toledo and Marshall
University men?s teams were running their last meet. Toledo and
Marshall are both eliminating their men?s teams.
__/ QUALIFYING WINDOW FOR USA OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
EXPANDED
"In response to a number of questions from athletes and coaches, the
Men?s and Women's Track & Field Committees of USA Track & Field
have decided to extend the beginning date of the qualifying period for
the 2003 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships to May 1, 2002.
This new date is over two months earlier than the previous date of July
5, 2002. Thus, athletes may use any performance mark made between
May 1, 2002 and June 15, 2003 to qualify for this year's Championships.
"In addition to this change, it should be noted that non-qualified athletes
wishing to petition for entry into the USA Outdoor Track & Field
Championships due to special circumstances (i.e. maternity, injury,
illness, etc.) should contact either John Chaplin, the Men's Track & Field
Chair at (jchaplin@mail.wsu.edu) or Stephanie Hightower, the Women's
Track & Field Chair at (shightower@ccad.edu).
