__/ CHRISTINE BRENNAN'S "BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE" - If you are a fan of great sports writing, get a copy of Christine Brennan's new book: "Best Seat in the House, a Father, a Daughter, a Journey through Sports." Christine's USA Today column on Thursdays is on my must-read list. She's a native of Toledo and she recounts stories of local interest about Mud Hens, Tigers and Wolverines. Christine's passion for promoting the role of sports in our lives was evident during her stories at the book-signing and discussion at Borders last night. She mentioned that she "looks for athletes who do more" such as Billy Jean King and Mohammed Ali. She advised that we pay attention to Julie Foudy, captian of Women's National Soccer Team which won the Olympic gold medal in 1996. Foudy was the only athlete to serve on the Secretary of Education's Commission which reviewed Title IX. Foudy fought, successfully, to preserve Title IX.

-- BAYSHORE MARATHON, TRAVERSE CITY, SATURDAY, MAY 27, 2006 -- The Traverse City Track Club hosts this scenic Northern Lower Michigan event. A new half-marathon complements the traditional marathon and 10K. The USATF certified 10K is the next event in the Michigan Runner Race Series.

In addition to the scenery, the Bayshore course is flat and fast-- a good Boston qualifier.
