__/ TIM BROE WINS U.S. 5000 METER TITLE

2002 8K Road Racing Champion and American Record holder in the 3000-meter indoor, Ann Arbor resident Tim Broe added another distance to his titles. Broe beat Adam Goucher, Jorge Torres, Bob Kennedy and others at the USATF championships last Friday night (13:35). You'll want to read Larry Eder's first-hand account of the race online: http://www.michiganrunner.net/news/broe5K_0603.html. Broe is eligible for the World Championships in Paris, depending on who does (or does not) run the 13:21 A qualifying standard.)

You can also see our video interview with Tim, when he was at Chris Lear's book-signing at Running Fit in Ann Arbor earlier this month. Tim figures prominently in Chris's book, Sub-4:00. See the interview at http:// michiganrunner.tv.

And while we're at it, our other Internet TV show, Michigan Golfer TV, will feature Tim's fiance, Vanessa Bell, in a show which will air (on the Internet) beginning Friday. Vanessa is a member of the LPGA developmental tour, the Futures Tour.

__/ CHRONICLE SEAWAY RUN, SATURDAY, JUNE 28, MUSKEGON

Billed as "A Run With a View," this 22nd annual classic offers exactly that. The 5K hugs Muskegon Lake; the 15K (Michigan Runner's 2003 title race at that distance) follows Muskiegon Lake's shore, loops alongside lake Michigan, bounds on a board-walk, then comes back. Both start 8:00 am at the Muskegon Family YMB=CA (showers and lockers available). One of Michigan Runner's 25 Most-Interesting Races of the Last 25 Years." Visit www.chroniclevents.com or phone (231) 725-6333. -- Scott Sullivan

__/ STANDARD FEDERAL 10K RACE SERIES, SATURDAY, JUNE 28, MUSKEGON

Back for its second year, this event--sponsored by the pros who put on the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon--offers the first in a series of 6.2 milers in Lansing June 28. Others are in Grand Rapids July 19, Kalamazoo August 16 and Auburn Hills Sept. 13. Three-deep prizes of $500, $350, and $250 in each race, plus $150 for masters winners. Male and female Michigan residents who finish at least three races compete for series prizes of up to $1,000. For more information, visit http://www.standardfederalbank10K.com. -- Scott Sullivan

__/ JAMIE KRZYMINSKI, SHARON DICKIE: ALL AMERICAN

Scott Hubbard point outs that we left Jamie Krzyminski out of our list of NCAA Division I All-Americans last week:

"Jamie Krzyminski of MSU finished 5th in the NCAA Div I women's 10,000m in 32:52. She's from Corunna and was 7th last year.

"Also, Sharon Dickie of Tennessee and Grand Blanc was 8th in the women's 5000m. I understand she made All-America also."

Thank-you, Scott for keeping track.

__/ USATF JUNIOR NATIONALS: WALTER & FERGUSON

Amy Hastings, Caroline Cretti and Rebecca Walter pitched an epic, three-way duel in the women's 5,000 meters. Walter of the University of Michigan led most of the way, but it was Hastings who sprinted away from Cretti in the final meters, finishing with a time of 16:28.60. Cretti moved up to place second in 16:29.70, and Walter was third in 16:31.90.

In the 400m hurdles, World Junior Championships silver medalist Kenneth Ferguson (Detroit Mumford) concluded an impressive meet by winning the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles in a single day. The South Carolina freshman first won the high hurdles at 2:50 p.m. in a time of 13.60, with Dexter Faulk second in 13.75. Exactly three hours later, Ferguson won the 400m hurdles in an even more impressive performance. The Southeastern Conference champion dominated the field before jogging across the finish line in 50.70 seconds - more than a full second ahead of second-place Adrian Walker of Illinois (51.73). --(From USATF Press Releases).

__/ SPIRIT OF PRE BOYS OF SALINE WIN DMR AT ADIDAS OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Spirit of Pre team of Neil Atziner, Kevin Laidlaw, Tim Russell and Dustin Voss, Saline, Michigan, won the national high school Distance Medley Relay (DMR) title at the Adidas Outdoor Championships in Raleigh, North Carolina. The DMR legs include 1200, 400, 800 and 1600 meters. Voss ran the 1600 anchor leg; the team's time of 10:10.69 beat Liverpool, New York's time of 10:11.26.

__/ QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"The best place for the show (Saucony Running and Racing) is the Internet, where people can download it. That works for the person, endurance sports and people's lives today."
