__/ CADILLAC CANCELLS FESTIVAL OF RACES Carol Renkiewicz reported this unfortunate turn of events to Art McCafferty on June 2:

"I was informed just this morning that we are not doing the race (Cadillac Fesitval of Races) this year due to a lack of sponsorship. What a disappointment!" -- Carol Renkiewicz

Cadillac Heritage Christian School

The race, scheduled for Labor Day, September 5, 2005, would have been the 33rd edition of the 10K. The 5K and Canoe/Bike/Run were added later on.

The 2005 Michigan Runner Race Series has lost the 10K event this year.

__/ REEBOK GRAND PRIX FEATURES MIDDLE DISTANCE MATCH- UPS THIS WEEKEND:

--KEVIN SULLIVAN & ALAN WEBB - 1,000 METERS

--TIM BROE, JORGE TORRES, BOAZ CHEBOIYWO - 3,000 METERS

A news release from USA Track & Field calls it this way, "One of the more interesting battles on Saturday will be the men's 1,000 meters, where America's top miler in 2004 Alan Webb, will take on the only American man ever to win a World Indoor Championships 800m gold medal, David Krummenacker. The contest will determine who is best at splitting the difference between their two specialties. Joining the fray will be 2004 U.S. Olympian Derrick Peterson, Canadian Olympian Kevin Sullivan and Australian national record-holder Mark Fountain.

"Also expected are Markos Geneti and Gebre-Egziabher Gebremariam of Ethiopia and Americans Tim Broe and Jorge Torres in what promises to be a top men's 3000m." The versatile Boaz Cheboiywo is also running the 3K.

__/ PAUL MCMULLEN PLANS TO RUN GRAND RAPIDS MARATHON IN THE FALL

Miler Paul McMullen is stepping up. Says Paul: "I have also committed to running the Grand Rapids Marathon, October 30, 2005. I'd like to break 2:40."

__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: GREAT RACE SPORTS FESTIVAL XXV

The Great Race Sports Festival in Elkhart, Indiana, has grown from 4 events on Memorial Day Weekend to 34 events in its twenty-five years. Michigan Runner TV presents the highlights of the half marathon and the 10K, as well as canoe and kayak events, in-line skating, bicycling and "the great horse race." http://michiganrunner.tv/2005greatrace/

__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: BRIAN DIEMER AMERIKAM 5K

Olympian Brian Diemer puts on one of Michigan's most competitive 5K's in his hometown of Cutlerville. In addition to prize money anyone who can beat Brian in the race wins a doughnut. Michigan Runner TV caught the action of the 15th annual race in 2004. The 16thh annual race is Saturday, June 11.

__/ VERRAN, BRINEY, AND SELL HEADLINE STEAMBOAT CLASSIC, PEORIA, IL, JUNE 11

Three members of the Hansons-Brooks Development Program will return to Steamboat Classic in Peoria, Illinois and race in the Steamboat 15k race. Tent Briney, Brian Sell and Clint Verran are members of Team USA for the Men's Marathon at the IAAF World Championships of Athletics in Helsinki, Finland in August, 2005, and all are members of Hansons-Brooks.

Along with Hansons teammate Sabrina Monro, Sell, Briney and Verran and Coach Keith Hanson will hold a coaching clinic with elementary school children from the Wilder Waite School at 10:00am Friday, June 10 outside the Gateway Building.

Known as 'Martin's Milers' the group is coached by teacher Colleen Martin, a member of the Illinois Valley Striders.

The City of Sterling Heights contributes greatly to that community's great running tradition with the 29th edition of the Dodge Park 3.1 Mile Run at 8:30 am. Hansons Running Shops are among the sponsors of this one and Kevin Hanson and the Stevenson High School Girls Cross Country team can be counted on to appear at the State Cross Country meet. Celebrate the 55th Annual Lilac Festival on Mackinac Island with a challenging 10K run and walk. Packet pick-up is at the Mackinac Island School.

Race begins, 9:30 am, at Windemere Point, goes throught historic downtown Mackinac Island, turns onto a challenging uphill, then flattens to a slight downhill, through the wooded center of the Island. __/ COACH OSLER ACCEPTS POSITION IN GEORGIA

Middle Georgia College in Cochran, Georga chose John Osler to be head cross-country coach for both the men's and women's teams of the college's new cross-country program. Osler has coached cross country at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich., and several high schools including Ishpeming High School where his team won a First Place State Division II Championship in 2001.

__/ NEW RACE IN EAST LANSING: MAX'S RACE

"I wanted to let you know about a new race on July 9th 8:30 a.m. at Michigan State University's campus: Max's Race. It will be a 5K Run/ Walk along with Kids' Fun Runs. All proceeds for the event will go to the Sparrow Hospital Pediatric Program Fund and Michigan Hands and Voices. The event is in memory of my son Maxwell Matthews who passed away March 12, 2005 at the age of 6.
