__/ MRN ON THE ROAD
- Muskegon (6/26/
04) - Chronicle Seaway Run and Muskegon's Summer
Celebration. Muskegon knows how to party. We stayed at the striking
new Shoreline hotel on Muskegon's reclaimed waterfront, took in the
colorful midway and heard the rocking' sound of Nickelback the night
before the 23rd Chronicle Seaway Run. The 15K run along the waterfro
nt, by the new Lake Express ferry and around the Pere Marquette beach
can't be beat for scenery. The summer celebration parade follows the ra
ce and you have all the makings of a great weekend or vacation. Beside
Nickelback, the music line-up for the eleven day celebration includes
Winona, Isaac Hayes, Creedence Clearwater Revisited, Lynyrd Skynyrd
, Melissa Etheridge, ZZ Top, and Crosby, Stills and Nash.
__/ GOOD FOOD WE'VE FOUND ON THE ROAD THIS SUMMER
-- Gaylord: Diana's Delights - breakfast and lunch
the local's place, on Main Street, homemade everything,
parfaits, muffins, breakfast skillets to die for
-- Petoskey: Roast & Toast Cafe
deli sandwiches, homemade bread, hearty veggie sandwich
-- Traverse City: Trillium at Grand Traverse Resort
Trillium knows how to make a dinner with friends relaxed and fun. Menu
will please those of us who like really good food.
- Elkhart - Das Dutchman Essenhaus: Middlebury, Indiana.
Amish Country version of Frankenmuth's chicken dinners
-- Elkhart: Texas Road House
A coupon for Great Race participants got us into this one.
We found a terrific salad for dinner, which isn't always the case at a
steakhouse.
-- Mackinac City: Audie's Family Restaurant. Audie's catered a
terrific breakfast for those of us who ran the first ever Mackinac
Bridge race. Scrambled eggs, fruit, sausage, biscuits, coffee. Perfect
post race feast after a run across the bridge on a sunny, crisp day.
-- St. Ignace: Mackinac Grill
Try the planked white fish.
-- Coldwater: Mexican Restaurant
A block south of US12, left at the church with the big steeple.
Homemade Mexican in a converted railroad depot
-- Detroit: Greektown - Cyprus Taverna
Really good stuffed grape leaves.
