__/ WATCH GALYAN'S NORTHVILLE SOLSTICE RUN ON COMCAST
BEGINNING TUESDAY
Comcast will begin showing the June 21 Galyan's Northville Solstice
Run beginning Tuesday, July 29 at 8:30 pm. Comcast Channel 25 is
available in Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Wayne, Westland, Romulus,
Plymouth, Canton, Northville, and Van Buren Township. The half hour
show will be repeated Wednesday, July 30, 6:00 pm and Thursday, July
31 at 8:30 pm. Gary Grace of Comcast has produced a terrific show
which features the 5K run/walk, the kids run and interviews with winners
and mid-pack runners. Doug Kurtis and Jennie McCafferty announce
the race as it unfolds.

You'll find the Alden Run in Northwest Lower Peninsula between
Traverse City and East Jordan.
The 5K and 10K share brutal starts up a hill out of town, the but payoff is
terrific: cross country-style runs, views and downhills after. Alden is on
Torch Lake, whose sparkling green must be seen to be believed, and
hosts an arts-and-crafts fair/huge garage sale near the finishline.. Phone

Celebrates the life of Ellen Osborn, an East Lansing fourth-grader who
died in 1993, plus the joys of childhood, friends and family. The fast, flat
5K starts and ends at Pinecrest Elementary School, making a figure-
eight through neighborhoods. Post-race activities are superb. Visit

__/ CARROLLTON CHARITY ROAD RACES, SUNDAY, JULY 27
Yes, there is a summer marathon in Michigan: it's the four-year-old
Carrollton Charity Road Race marathon. 20K, 10K, and 5K races are
being held, too. The access is easy off I-75 near Saginaw, using I-675
bypass. Both the start and the finish lines are at Carrollton High School,
1235 Mapleridge Road.
Both the Marathon and 20K take advantage of early-morning cool and
start at 6:00 am. An early bird start at 5:00 am is available,, too--upon
request. The 10K and 5K begin at 8:15 am. All events are on a flat-fast
certified 5K course. Registration is available online at

The Mark Mellon Memorial Triathlon is in its 23rd year. This is one of the
longest continually-staged swim-bike-run races in the world. Features
1K swim in Otsego Lake, 50K bike with impressive hills, then flat out-and
back 10K run that lets you size up your competion. Many athletes camp
on-site, Otsego County Park; sign up early, if that's your plan. Kid's Tri

Seven years ago runner Martin Meyer and the Hannibal Hospital
Foundation started this race along the Mississippi River in Mark Twain's
home town of Hannibal, Missouri. The 5K & 10K race courses takes
advantage of the stunning river views at the top of Lovers Leap, but you
have to get there first. The race is now a classic and the Lovers Leap hill
is now known as The Cannibal. Running Network TV captured the 2003
event during Hannibal's Tom Sawyer Days on July 5.

Former St. Clare Shores resident, Bob Busquart, is training for the
Olympic Marathon Trials with the Hansons' Olympic Development
Program in Rochester. Busquart qualified for the Trials at Grandma's
Marathon in June with a 2:20:20. In the Runner's World interview,
Busquart talks about his high school running in Michigan, his college
years in Alabama and his current training with Hansons.
