__/ RRCA CONNECTION PROVIDES FUEL BELTS FOR DEXTER ANN
ARBOR AGE GROUP
WINNERS - The Road Runners Clubs of America provide important
services
for events, especially event insurance. Sponsors can come in handy,
too. For example, the Fuel Belt company provided fuel belts for all
Dexter Ann Arbor age group winners. Michigan RRCA representative
Gary Morgan
suggests that event directors can take advantage of such services
through RRCA. http://www.rrca.org.

__/ ROBERT GARY NAMED OSU HEAD MEN'S TRACK COACH -- The
message board
have been speculating for weeks; now it's official:
"Two-time Olympian in the 3,000m steeplechase Robert Gary was
named
Ohio State University's seventh men's track and field head coach on
Monday. The men's cross country head coach at Ohio State since his
graduation
from OSU in 1996, Gary succeeds Russ Rogers, who retired in June
after
19 seasons with the Buckeyes.
'Being named the track and field head coach at my alma mater is almost
beyond my dreams," said Gary, who has been named Ohio Cross
Country
Coach of the Year five of the last six seasons. "Being a part of the
outstanding track and field tradition at The Ohio State University is truly
an honor.
'I will be committed to building a complete track and field team. We
will create a culture for our student-athletes to achieve their academic
and athletic goals. I envision a balanced team with all the event areas
working toward a common goal of a Big Ten championship.' "

__/ PLETZKE AND MAGNANT TOP RUNNERS AT INAUGURAL OAK
POINTE RALLY FOR
THE CURE 5-K
By: John Hebert
Brighton, (July 9, 2006): Ryan Pletzke 23, (18:02) from Northville and
Newport Beach, California and Christine Magnant 43, (21:53) from
Brighton topped all runners and walkers in the inaugural Oak Pointe
Rally for
the Cure, benefiting Susan B Komen Breast Cancer.
The 5-K race course toured the neighborhoods of Oak Pointe Estates
and several cart paths on Oak Pointe Country Club in Brighton,
Michigan. The finish was along the lake where runners and walkers
could view
the homes along the lake as well as watch early morning waterskiers on
a
clear and windless morning.
An award was given to the first breast cancer survivor, Sue
Masterson. Age group winners included: Male 15-19: Ryan Jara,
Female 15-19:
Katie Levesque, Female 20-29: Laura Rauschot, Male 30-39: Jim Toth,
Female 30-39: Amy Steiner, Male 40-49: Matt Bedford, Female 40-49:
Elly Truran, Male 50-59: Justin Saine, Female 50-59: Cindi Holman,
Male
60-69: Jack Johnson, Female 60-69: Loretta Mackenouth and Male 70-
99:
Ken Isherwood.
Following the awards ceremony, a drawing was held for items and
gift certificates donated by local businesses. Almost all runners and
walkers stayed around for the post race entertainment and bagels,
water,
fruit and other food items donated to the cause, stated race director
Terese Grondin.
For a first time event, many positive comments were overheard about
the organization and the beauty of the course and attention and
enthusiasm given to all runners and walkers. One of the lighter
moments was
when Yogi, a golden retriever who finished the race won one of the
drawing items. The race will again be held next year on the Sunday
following the 4th of July. Plan to put this race on your race calendar as it
is truly a beautiful course which benefits a great cause.
