-- HOWELL MELON RUN, FRIDAY, FRIDAY, AUGUST 18 -- The Friday night scheduling, the twisting, hilly course, the setting in Howell City Park, and the melons at the finish all add to the traditions and the sustained popularity of the Howell Melon Run. Howell Area Parks and Recreation present the 29th annual Melon Run which include the Melon Roll at 6:15 pm, the Tot Trot at 6:30 pm, the Fun Run and Walk at 6:45 pm and the 10K and 5K runs at 7:00 pm. -- BILL'S RUN RICHMOND RUN!, SATURDAY, AUGUST 19 - The City of Richmond's Recreation Department hosts the 8th annual Bill's Run Richmond Run on Saturday. Choose from an 8K run, a 5K run or walk at 8:00 am or a 1 mile fun run at 9:00 am. The race course takes you through beautiful downtown Richmond. Events start in the Beebe Street Memorial Park and are named in honor of William K. Hamilton. A printable registration form, directions, and a course map are available at http://cityofrichmond.net.

--PETOSKEY FESTIVAL BY THE BAY WELLNESS WALK & RUN, SATURDAY, AUGUST 19

- The shores of Little Traverse Bay are the setting for the Petoskey Festival by the Bay Wellness Walk & Run. A 1 mile walk or run begins at 9:00 am and the 5K run or walk follows at 9:15 am. Registration and events begin at Bayfront Park. Register at Bayfront Park on race day or stop by the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce. Petoskey's Festival on the Bay runs from Friday evening, August 18 through Sunday, August 20 and includes activities for children, an arts and craft fair and several free concerts. http://www.petoskeyfestival.com.

__/ MRN ON THE ROAD-- EDMONTON, ALBERTA - The nearby Canadian Rockies, a lively vibrant city known for its festivals (three were underway while we were there), race courses which feature the beautiful, hilly, North Saskatchewan River valley, and miles of trails along the river are among the many reasons we look forward to a return to the ING Edmonton Marathon. The city definitely showed a warm welcome to marathon, half-marathon, 10K and 5K participants.
