__/ JOGGLERS TAKE ON SCOTIABANK TORONTO WATERFRONT
MARATHON
"TORONTO. August 15th. Watch out for the Jogglers! Canadian
Joggler in marathon showdown with the Chicago Joggler, for Sick Kids
Hospital.
One of Toronto's most internationally famous marathoners, Michal
Kapral
from The Beaches, today confirmed he'll be going for a new Guinness
World Record at this years Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon
[September 24th], in a head to head battle with Perry Romanowski of
Chicago.
And its all in a bid to raise funds for Run for Liane at Torontos
Sick Childrens Hospital.
Better known as "The Joggler", Michal set a Guinness record at last
September's Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, joggling [running
and
joggling 3 balls] the entire 42 kilometres in 3 hours, 7 minutes, 49
seconds, in support of Sick Kids. The story was carried around the
world,
but the record was short-lived. In November, a 24-year old Harvard
Divinty student from West Virginia, Zach Warren, "joggled" the
Philadelphia
Marathon in 3:07:05, raising funds for a Children's Circus in
Afghanistan, and the challenge was on.
A thrilling head-to-head match was arranged for this April's famed,
Boston Marathon. For 17 miles Kapral and Warren joggled side by side,
before "The Boston Joggler" pulled away, "without ever looking back" [!!!]
to smash the old World Record with a time of 2:58:23. The Toronto
Joggler came home under the old mark in 3:06:45. The crowd reaction
and the
media coverage was perhaps even more remarkable than the
charity-running feats of the jogglers themselves."
-- Alan Brookes, Race Director
Alan--
How about a joggler-drubbler match (Michel Capra-Riley McLincha)--
age-graded? -- Editor
__/ BOSTON MARATHON TO START AT 10:00 AM -- For the most
traditional of
races, we're seeing another change to tradition. The traditional Noon
start time has been moved up two hours to 10:00 am. Reason given is
"to
ease traffic in the eight cities and towns along the course." The
Boston Red Sox now may consider whether or not to change their 11:00
am
game on Patriot's Day. (I think more states follow the Massachusetts
example and have a Patriot's Day holiday.
__/ WORLD CLASS PERFORMANCE - TRACK AND FIELD
-- Tiffany Ofili (Ypsilanti/Michigan), bronze medal, 100 meter hurdles,
13:37, personal best, IAAF World Junior Championships, Beijing,
August
15-20. Think of Tiffany's performance in terms of Beijing 2008 and
London 2012.
__/ GREAT PERFORMANCES - ROAD RACING
-- 3) Paul Aufdemberge, 3rd Master, 35:20, $950, Falmouth Road Race,
Massachusetts, Sunday, August 13
