Kevin Sullivan (Canada) qualified for semi-finals in 4th position, 1st heat, 3:36.80, "Best I've run all season, I'm peaking at the right time," he told CBET TV.

Nick Willis (New Zealand), in third heat, smiled broadly at the start line, qualified with 3rd place finish: 3:39.89. Nate Brannen (Canada), also third heat, qualified for semi-finals on time: 3:40.69. "I got bumped once, kind of threw me off a little bit."

Alan Webb, 6th in first heat, qualified on time: 3:36.84.

American Chris Lukezic, was 3rd in heat 2: 3:41.80.

American Rob Myers qualified on time in heat 3: 3:40.16 Semifinals are Monday, 1:05 EDT (20:05 Helsinki time) -- DISCUS THROW - MEN

Carl Brown's (US) best throw of 61.91, missed qualifying by just one position. -- 10,000 METER FINAL - WOMEN

All three American athletes fell back from the lead pack by the first 7 minutes. Katie McGregor was the first American to finish, setting a personal best 31:21.20 and finishing 15th in the field of 26. Ethiopia swept all three medals.
