__/__/__/__/__/__/___/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/ __/__/__/ GREAT RACING IN SEPTEMBER - September's cooler temperatures bring more races than any other month. Here are a few of our favorites among the dozens available this weekend:

-- GROSSE POINTE RUN, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 - Lake St. Clair stars in this gorgeous waterfront event. Events, including a 10K run, a 5K run or walk and a 1 mile fun run, begin at 8:30 1m. Grosse Pointe Farms Pier Park. Register online: http://www.active.com.

-- JOHN ROGUCKI MEMORIAL KENSINGTON CHALLENGE, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 - The rolling hills of Kensington Park provide scenery and a test of hill-running skills at 15K and 5K distances. A 1/2 mile fun run begins at 8:30 am; the 5K run and walk go off at 9:00 and the 15K follows at 9:15 am. Awards are in Open, Masters, and Grand Masters divisions. Ann Arbor Track Club hosts; he action begins at Martindale Beach. Check Doug McEwen's article about last year's event:

http://www.michiganrunner.net/news/kensington1105.html.

http://aatrackclub.org/Events/Events-Kensington.htm.

-- MT. BALDHEAD CHALLENGE, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 - This is one of those races you'll never forget and the 282 steps up Mt. Baldhead are only part of the interesting 15K. If you prefer shorter and flatter, try the certified, flat and fast 5K. This is a great time to visit the beautiful Saugatuck-Douglas neighborhood. Be sure to save time for the shops, art and restaurants. Events begin 9:00 am, downtown Saugatuck.

__/ SCOTIABANK TORONTO WATERFRONT MARATHON ANNOUNCES ELITE FIELD --

Simon Bor will return to defend his 2005 title, but it won't be easy-- the men's elite field includes more than two dozen sub 2:20 marathoners. 2005 winner and Canadian marathon champion Lioudmila Kortchaguina is out with a minor injury, so the women's race will have a new champion. Among the contenders is 2005 Detroit Free Press / Flagstar Bank winner Victoria Klimina. Ed Whitlock, age 75, is looking for another age-group world record. To check out the International Team Challenge or to register online, see http:// torontowaterfrontmarathon.com. Y
