__/ JOHN ROGUCKI MEMORIAL KENSINGTON CHALLENGE, MILFORD, SATURDAY, SEPT. 20 - The John Rogucki Memorial Kensington Challenge is celebrating it's 20th year in the rolling hills of beautiful Kensington Metropark in Milford. The 5K Run, the 9th of 11 events in the 2003 Michigan Runner Race Series, begins with the 5K walk at 9:00 am. The 15K begins at 9:15 am. A 1/2 Mile Fun Run starts at 8:30 am. The challenge is named in honor of the late John Rogucki, who ran many of his miles in the park. All events are sponsored by the Ann Arbor Track Club. http://aatrackclub.org

BALDHEAD CHALLENGE, SAUGATUCK, SATURDAY, SEPT. 20 - The 9:00 am 15K is an experience not to miss, with a course that starts in artistic Saugatuck, winds through Douglas, climbs 282 steps of the Mt. Baldhead sand dune, winds through Lake Michigan dunes and woods before heading home. There's a 9:15 am 5K for runners who don't want to stare at stairs, and an 8:30 am "Little Feet, Big Feet" 1K for kids 12 and under. http://www.mtbaldhead.com. -- Scott Sullivan

__/ RICHIE BRINKER NAMED TO MARATHON RELAY CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM - Akrun, Ohio - (Sept. 11, 2003) - The five-man U.S. team for the inaugural North American Men's Marathon Relay Championship has been selected by USA Track & Field, the governing body for long distance running. The inaugural Road Runner Akron Marathon on Saturday, Oct. 11 hosts the international road relay competition as the U.S., Canada and Mexico will compete for North American bragging rights and $40,000 in prize money with $25,000 to the winning team.

Team USA for the 26.2 mile relay in leg order are Clint Wells (Boulder, Colo.)- 10K, Ryan Kirkpatrick (Boulder, Colo.) - 5K, Richie Brinker (Rochester Hills, Mich.) - 10K, Peter Sherry (Great Falls, Va.) - 5K and Nolan Swanson (Springfield, Ore.) - 12.2K. Henry Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio) is the alternate and Jim Estes (Louisville, Ky.) is the men's team coach.

As a new official U.S. road record category, the U.S. team will set a national 5-leg marathon relay record with their finish.

__/ BRIAN SELL'S BREAKTHROUGH - Brian Sell, of the Hansons- Brooks Distance project, finished a strong second to winner Meb Keflefighi's record 58:57 at the 20K USA Championships in New Haven, September 1. Sell's 59:18beat previous 20K champions Dan Browne and Phillimon Hanneck. His time was also faster than Browne's winning 59:21 and Kyle Baker's second 59:22 in 2002's race. Sell next will compete in the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in Vilamoura. Portugal, October. 4.
