MICHIGAN RUNNING NEWS - September 2, 2005 - Katrina Extra

__/ RUNNING NETWORK SENDING T SHIRTS TO TEXAS* - Katrinia is distracting us from our usual lives. It would anyway, but Katrina hit my sister Beth, who lives in New Orleans with husband Alan, a New Orleans native. It's difficult to communicate. The sibling network, in high gear via email, reports everything we hear from them: Leaving house (near Audubon Park) for Layfette, Louisiana, They're in Layfette. They're getting news from CNN.

Beth buys her shoes at the running store owned by Mike Andrews, publisher of Southern Runner. Running Network colleagues report: "He's OK--"high and dry" in Pensacola, but his store. . ."

Our Running Network colleague, Lance Phegley from Runner Triathlete News and Inside Texas Running asked us to post this link: http://www.insidetexasrunning.com/news/ clothingdrive2005.html and to pass on this message about helping Katrinia refugees:

"Runners and Race Directors:

Thousands of people in the Louisiana, Mississippi, and surrounding areas were flooded out of their homes by Hurricane Katrina, many of them losing everything - home, cars, clothes, etc. Some 25,000 people are being bussed from New Orleans to Houston, where they will make the Houston Astrodome their home for the foreseeable future.

Inside Texas Running is calling on all runners, cyclists, swimmers, triathletes, or anyone else to lend a helping hand to those in need. We're calling upon all race directors to donate the leftover or unused T- shirts from their events. For those who have lost everything in the floods, a nice, dry T-shirt would be greatly appreciated, regardless if it was from an event they hadn't heard of or if the shirt isn't from this year's event.

But this call for help isn't limited to just event directors. Everyone has extra race T-shirts sitting in their closet - now is the time to lighten your laundry load and get them into the hands of people who could really use them.

T-shirts (and other clothing) can be delivered or shipped (postage-paid, please) to the ITR offices at:

Inside Texas Running

14201 Memorial Drive, Suite 204

Houston, TX 77079

281-759-0555 phone

ALL DONATIONS WILL BE DELIVERED TO THE RED CROSS FOR DISTRIBUTION TO THOSE MOST IN NEED.

If you have any questions, please contact Loran Sheffer at (281) 759- 0555." ---------------------------------------------------------
