__/ OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST HAYES JONES RUNNING FOR
MICHIGAN HOUSE-Former Eastern Michigan track and field coach Bob
Parks sent us this news about Hayes Jones:
"Hayes Jones, our 1960 Olympic Bronze and 1964 Gold Medalist for the
USA in the 110m HH, has announced that he is seeking the Democratic
nomination in 2006 for the 29th District seat in the Michigan House of
Representatives. The seat represents Pontiac and Auburn Hills and the
incumbent cannot seek re-election due to term limitations. Jones, a 67
year old Pontiac resident, was appointed in January as director of
Oakland County's Economic Development & Community Affairs division.
He also serves on the state Technology Tri-Corridor Steering
Committee. Jones, a former Pontiac schools trustee, won the Gold

MARK - "The number of participants in high school athletics increased
for the 16th consecutive year in 2004-05 and topped 7 million for the first
time in history. Participation rose by 115,157 students, to 7,018,709,

total also increased, reaching 4,110,319, the highest participation in 27
years. This year's boy's participation figure is second only to the record
4,367,442 in 1977-78.
