__/ BELL MEMORIAL LAKE SUPERIOR SHORE RUN RACE AGAINST
TOBACCO, MARQUETTTE, OCT. 1 - The glorious course of the Lake
Superior Shore Run deserves to be on your "must do" list. Lake Superior
is the star and runners doing the half-marathon get to run right by the
Lake shore and also to enjoy striking vistas from high points along the
lake. The 5K run offers its own gorgeous view of the lake. The Half
Marathon, the 5K and the Kids runs all begin in Little Presque Isle park.
Events begin at 10:00 am and the 1K kids race starts at 12:30. A 9:30
early start is available for runners expecting to take longer than 2 hours
and 30 minutes. The race is part of the Upper Peninsula Trail Series and
the 2005 Michigan Runner Race series. For more information see http://
www.marquette.localhealth.net/ShoreRun.htm
__/ MICHIGAN RUNNER TV: GREAT WALL MARATHON - We've all
heard about China's Great Wall. On May 21, 2005, more than 750
runners had the experience of a lifetime-running on a section of the
Great Wall north of Beijing, China. Small children and local residents
cheered us on as we made our way through several villages. Our
coverage also includes an interview with Greg Feucht, the Dearborn,
Michigan resident who won the marathon. We also visit the Terra Cotta
Warrors in Xi'an as part of the wonderful Kathy Loper Tours. See http://
kathyloperevents.com. More video of Kathy Loper Tours around Beijing
will follow. http://michiganrunner.tv/2005greatwall/
__/ MRN ON THE ROAD - TORONTO - Visiting Toronto is always a treat
and the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon gives runners a
wonderful tour of the diverse and scenic Toronto waterfront. Michigan
Runner TV will feature several shows in the coming weeks. Festivities
began on the waterfront Friday evening with rocking concerts by
Lighthouse and David Rudder. We spoke with 2004 Detroit Free Press/
Flagstar Bank Marathon champion, Joseph Ndiritu, who served as a
pacer for the marathon this year. We also ran into John and Margo
Hebert of Bloomfield Hills, who ran the half-marathon. Francine
Robinson and Don Kern, from the Grand Rapids area, both ran the
marathon. Don, race director of the Grand Rapids Marathon, gets a lot
of marathon expertise by running marathons all over the world. We also
had a chance to spend a few minutes with Ed Whitlock, who, at age 74,
ran another stunning marathon time, 3:02:40. Ed is looking forward to
running in the Crim 10 Mile again next summer. Ed said he thought he
could be faster if he focused less on training and did a little more racing.

__/ GEENA GALL IS TOMORROW'S WINNER - MICHIGAN SPORTS
HALL OF FAME - University of Michigan freshman Geena Gall, a
member of the U-M women's cross country and track teams, has been
selected as the female recipient of the Tomorrow's Winner award
presented by the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame. The award, given
annually since 1995, goes to one male and one female high school
student-athlete and is based on athletic achievements, academic
excellence and leadership abilities.
Michigan Runner named Gall a Michigan High School Runner of the
Year Honorable Mention 2004-05. Scott Sullivan write: "The Grand
Blanc graduate was Nike Indoor and Outdoor national queen in the 800
meters, running 2:05.05 at the latter meet, and D-1 state champ at that
distance too. She won her regional 1600 in a sizzling 4:45.42, and was
state runner-up (to Clarkston's Jenny Morgan) in that event."
