A record crowd of more than 13,000 marathoners, half- marathoners, 5K runners, walkers and wheelers made their way through various combinations of Detroit neighborhood streets, across the Ambassador Bridge, along the Windsor waterfront, through the Detroit Windsor tunnel and around Belle Isle to the finish line in Ford Field. Andrei Gordeev of Belarus finished the marathon first in a time 2:14:59, good for a $5,000 payday. Michigan State All American Jim Jurcevich of Columbus, Ohio, took second in 2:17:44. Wioletta Kryza of Poland won the women's race in 2:40:46, coming in ahead of the 2004 champion Elena Orlova, the 2004 champion. Orlova finished in 2:42:33.

Peter Power of Paradise, Newfoundland was the first master to cross the line in 2:36:18. Julie Harding of Lindsborg, Kansas won the women's master title with a 2:55:03.

Michigan's First Gentleman Dan Mulhern finished his second marathon in 3:55:26.
