LO High Alum Slays Dragon Dash

LAKE ORION (5/5) - While some parts of the world celebrated Cinco de Mayo, Lake Orion held its largest Dragon Dash in the six-year history of the race.

"It was probably best weather we've ever had," said Jennifer Rowe, race director. This year's Dash drew 250 runners, up from 205 last spring. And Dragons prowled everywhere.

Wearing their white and green football shirts, the Lake Orion High School Dragons football team served as race marshals. Many dragons, and dragon alumni, also competed in the 8K.

Jordan Desiliets, an LO High graduate now at Eastern Michigan University, dashed to victory for the second year in a row. He, LO alum Adam Frezza, who now attends Oakland University, and Matt Ames, 27, led early.

The two ex-Dragons pulled away on the second mile. Then Desiliets shook Frezza. Desiliets finished in 25:41, Frezza in 27:00, and Ames in 27:12.

Sterling Heights Stevenson junior Molly Harms, 16, won the women's 8K in 32:45. "They definitely had a lot volunteers on the course," said Harms.

Katie Calnan, 28, of Dearborn, took second in 35:49, followed by Lake Orion junior Ashley Wharton in 36:01.

"I liked running through the neighborhoods," Wharton said. "The course was pretty flat. It had a couple hills."
