Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon director Patricia Ball needed a winner after she heard the city had moved the 2002 race date back to Oct. 6.

She got some bounce back in her step and a smile on her face when she heard that the race would be allowed to finish in the new Ford Field. This will be attractive to runners, who will be able to see themselves sprint to the finish on the the field's Jumbotron TV screen.

Past Detroit Marathons have finished on Belle Isle, at Hart's Plaza, in Cheney Park and at Tiger Stadium. We can now add the name of Ford Field to the list.
