Monica Joyce Wins Masters Title at Carlsbad

It was a world-record setting day at the Carlsbad 5000 on
Sunday, April 7, 2002. Deena Drossin broke Paula
Radcliffe's 5K world record by three seconds with a 14:54. Deena wasn't the only one having a good day. Pinckney,
Michigan's Monica Joyce won the Masters title and the
$1,000 prize with a 16:48--the fastest time and best place
in the three years she has run this race.
2002 - 1st place - Masters 16:48
2001 - 2nd place - Masters 17:09
2000 - 3rd place - Masters 17:18
Joyce, a 1984 Olympian for Ireland in the 3000, is Michigan
Runner's Master Runner of the Year 2000. 5K World record holder Sammy Kipketer won the men's
race in 13:17; Eddy Hellebuyck won the men's masters race
in 14:48.
