MILFORD (9/17) - Make that two in a row for Marybeth Reader. Last year, Reader, 36, of West Bloomfield, won the John Rogucki
Memorial Kensington Challenge women's 15K in 1:02:11. This year she
ran faster.
"I was hoping to run under one hour," Reader said. "But I'll take a
(1:00:10) PR."
She and 675 other runners in the 15K and 5K found cool, sunny
weather when they stepped to the starting line.
"Perfect weather," said Reader. "John Rogucki (who died in 1997) must
plan it, because it was perfect here last year too."
Women's masters champ Krys Brish, 42, of Milford, finished second
behind Reader in 1:02:54. Grand masters winner Ellen Nitz, 65, of
Milford, also had a good day with a 1:20:22 clocking.
David Homan, 38, of South Lyon, claimed the men's 15K in 52:49.
"I run here (Kensington Metropark) all the time," Homan said. "It felt a lot
hillier today than it usually does."
Andy Hass, 27, of Belleville was second in 53:08. Mark Neal, 43, of
Rochester, won the masters title in 55:16. Doug Goodhue, 63, of Milford,
was grand masters champion in 57:52.
Matthew McMaster, 23, of Ann Arbor, and Monica Price, 26, of
Commerce Township, were men's and women's 5K champions in 16:26
and 19:09.
The Kensington Challenge was coordinated by the Ann Arbor Track
Club.
