The Michigan Running community is mourning the untimely death of a
champion high school runner. Riley Klingel of Fremont was killed in a head-on automobile accident on
his way to school, Friday, April 22. The Fremont High School senior was
the Division 2 cross country champion in his sophomore year, finished
5th in 2003 and was runner-up to Daniel Roberts in 2004.
Michigan Runner magazine editor Scott Sullivan said,
"I'm heartsick. Riley was a warrior in a race, but otherwise as sweet and
humble as any kid you will ever meet.
"What a future he had. We've lost one of our best."
Many people are remembering Riley on the mlive.com track forum: http://
