RUNNING NETWORK TV: CHEVRON HOUSTON MARATHON & ARAMCO HOUSTON HALF MARATHON
===========================================================================
This year's Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon sold out within hours and its easy to see why: first rate organization, fast courses and first rate competition. The Aramco Houston Half also served as the USATF Half Marathon champinships for both men and women. Fields were deep in both races, PR's were rampant, 3 course records were broken and debuts by Shalane Flanagan and Brett Gotcher were stunning. Our cameras caught starts, finishes and an interview with 2009 Aramco Houston Half Marathon champion: Meb Keflezighi

RUNNING CANADA TV: SCOTIABANK TORONTO WATERFRONT MARATHON
=========================================================
Want to qualify for Boston? Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon is a flat, fast course that has been the qualifying venue for many Boston wanna-be's. Glenda Card of Oak Park, Michigan qualified for Boston for the first time at the 2009 race. We spoke with STWM's volunteer coordinator, Charlotte Brookes about the race.

DICKS'S SPORTING GOODS PITTSBURGH MARATHON PREVIEW WITH DANE RAUSCHENBERG
=========================================================================
We're happy that Pittsburgh's marathon returned last year after a five year break. We spoke with Dane Rauschenberg, a man who knows his marathons, about the Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon which will be May 2, 2010. (In 2006 Rauschenberg ran 52 marathons on 52 weekends.)

E2 EATING & EXERCISE FOR OPTIMAL FITNESS: HAPPY HEALTHY WEIGHT WEEK
===================================================================
January 17-23 is “Healthy Weight Week” 32.7% of Americans adults are overweight, 34% are obese and 6% are extremely obese. 32% of American children are overweight, 16% are obese and 11% are extremely obese. Comparing these statistics, it is easy to see that a child has a 65-75% chance of following in their overweight parent’s footsteps. To determine your BMI go to http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi Why is a “normal” BMI so beneficial? According to the Center for Disease Control, as weight increases to the overweight and obesity range, the risks for the following conditions are elevated:
• Coronary heart disease
• Type 2 diabetes
• Cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon)
• Hypertension (high blood pressure)
• Dyslipidemia (for example, high total cholesterol or high levels of triglycerides)
• Stroke
• Liver and Gallbladder disease
• Sleep apnea and respiratory problems
• Osteoarthritis (a degeneration of cartilage and its underlying bone within a joint)
• Gynecological problems (abnormal menses, infertility)
Yet achieving a healthy weight is not just about reaching a set number of pounds that categorizes you as normal. It includes a collection of positive lifestyle behaviors that include a healthy diet, regular physical activity, adequate rest, not smoking, alcohol in moderation and effective ways of coping with everyday stress. Most runners score well on most, if not all of these behaviors, so you can all consider yourselves “abnormal” in a good way!

HUSTLE FOR HAITI 10K/5K/2K RUN & WALKS, DOWAGIAC, JANUARY 31
============================================================
Thom Janssen alerted us to this race for Haiti:
"Fedi Fe (Fire Up)!
Coach Ron Gunn has helped Southwestern Michigan College and St. Paul's Episcopal church with an avenue to respond to the urgent need in Haiti. He has designed a unique event utilizing part of the Trail course used for Steve's Run (Roadrunner Trails Red course).
The intrinsic rewards await both the serious and casual runner, as well as, hikers and walkers who wish to challenge this wooded trail course in mid winter's brisk weather - all in support of an urgent need. Leverage your efforts by obtaining pledges of $1 to $5 per kilometer from family and friends.
This SMC community sponsored event is presented as a fund raiser for the Haitian people. All funds raised will go to help fill the even greater need since the earthquake in Haiti. Coach Gunn and the other organizers are familiar with Haiti as part of the volunteer medical teams which pay their own way each year. They plan to go again in March. Sponsored by St. Paul's Episcopal church which has been involved since 1967.

LOCAL TRIATHLETES HOST TRIATHLON CLINICS
========================================
Whitmore Lake, MI April 19, 2009 – The sport of triathlon has been gaining popularity in recent years and is currently at an all-time high. Membership of USA Triathlon, the sanctioning authority for the sport, surpassed 115,000 annual members in early 2009 compared to membership numbers between 15,000 and 21,000 from 1993 to 2000.
With this growth in national popularity, it should come as no surprise that the sport is gaining tremendous popularity in our own “Great Lake State.” Triathletes Karen McKeachie and Eva Solomon will be hosting triathlon clinics to help beginners learn about the sport and to help experienced triathletes with their training.
Native Michigan residents, Solomon and McKeachie have been involved in health and fitness activities for years. McKeachie is a six-time winner of Dexter-Ann Arbor Run, including the first which was in 1974. She is a five-time gold medalist of the world triathlon championships and a nine-time finisher of Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii. She has extensive experience with race direction, directed the first-ever all-women's running race in Michigan held in 1978 and co-founder several triathlons in the 1980's. Solomon has been competing in triathlons, duathlons, and running races since 1987, keeping a balance between family, work, and a healthy lifestyle. Together, they are the founders of Epic Races, a multi-sport production company which promotes fit and healthy lifestyles through multi-sport events.
The clinics will have both beginner and experienced triathlete components. Beginners will be introduced to the sport and will learn everything from what to wear to how to transition from one sport to the next. Experienced triathletes will focus on training techniques and how to improve in all three disciplines.
Clinic Dates: February 14, March 14, April 18
Time: All Clinics will be 11:00 AM-1:00 PM
Location: Whitmore Lake Community Pool, 7430 Whitmore Lake Rd., Whitmore Lake, MI
Cost: $35 per clinic or $84 for all three
For additional information, please contact Eva Solomon at (734) 678-5045 or visit http://www.epicraces.com.
Epic Races is committed to managing eco-friendly events by minimizing waste, emissions and reusing and recycling. Their events showcase the resources, industry, and beauty of Michigan.

GREAT LAKES ENDURANCE GETS GREENER
==================================
Great Lakes Endurance and Jeff Crumbaugh have pioneered "green" races and now Jeff has raised the bar again: "As of January 1, 2010, the Great Lakes Endurance website has been moved to a new hosting provider that is entirely powered by wind energy."
Among the races Great Lakes Endurance puts on are the Grand Island Marathon & 10K, the Navarino Eco-Marathon, the Tahqua 25K Trail Run, and the "retired" Keweenaw Trail Running Festival.
